Villa Balbiano, Lake Como

Set against the dramatic mountains and shimmering waters of Lake Como, Larry Walshe conceived a vibrant and richly textural floral design for a spectacular wedding at the iconic Villa Balbiano. Drawing inspiration from the villa’s classical Italian gardens and the luminous natural light of the lake, the floral concept celebrated colour in a refined yet expressive way.

Soft whites and fresh greens echoed the surrounding landscape, while bursts of peach, coral, apricot and warm orange introduced a joyful energy that felt perfectly suited to the sunlit setting. Sculptural arrangements were thoughtfully integrated throughout the grounds, allowing the flowers to feel as though they had naturally emerged from the gardens themselves.

For the ceremony overlooking the lake, Walshe designed a striking floral installation that framed the view while enhancing the architectural symmetry of the space. A mirrored aisle reflected both the sky and the abundant florals lining the pathway, creating an immersive sense of depth and movement. The ceremony structure itself was softened with abundant clusters of hydrangea, dahlias, chrysanthemums and anthuriums in layered tonal palettes, giving the impression of flowers cascading organically over the structure. Throughout the gardens and along the villa’s façade, lush floral groupings flowed across urns, fountains and entrances, blurring the line between landscape design and floral artistry.
